After the violent and possibly illegal police eviction of the Free Hetherington on Tues March 22nd 2011 on the University of Glasgow campus - in which students were assaulted and arrested for their participation in a peaceful protest against scathing cuts at the University - Principal Anton Muscatelli called an open session. After the eviction, hundreds of students marched on and occupied the University Senate, until campus security and senior management gave the Hetherington back to the protesters (probably in a bid to avoid further embarrassment to themselves in their handling of the situation and the loss of the Senate).
Although promising a full independent enquiry into the police intervention (which included a helicopter, dogs, horses, riot vans and an estimated 80 officers) and the subsequent hospitalisation and continuing arrests of students, Muscatelli refused to back down over his £200,000 salary and his direct responsibility for the events, as well as the horrific funding cuts across the University, including the scrapping of Nursing, Anthropology, Sociology, Russian and Slavonic Studies, the merging of History, Classics and Archaeology into a single department, and the ‘voluntary redundancies’ of staff.
This man was unelected by the student body, is an obstacle to free and peaceful protest on campus and made the call that instigated a police vs students riot on campus over a civil matter.
(I’m around the 28 minute mark. I was so angry that I could barely speak, but spoke nonetheless).
Thought I would drop you a line to introduce this new producer I'm now managing. Would love to hear your thoughts on his sound. Really enjoy your words for Dazed and Confused.
