Legend is a word that gets thrown around quite a lot when it comes to music, but it’s one that we’re happy to use to describe the amazing AraabMUZIK. If you are a fan of early-mid 2000s U.S. hip hop and R&B, then you have most certainly heard his work. AraabMUZIK has produced hits for Busta Rhymes, Dipset, Fabolous and Cam’ron, and a quick scan of YouTube proves that he is an absolute monster on the MPC.
AraabMUZIK is playing a live show at The Glasgow School of Art on December 2nd.
It’s an early show, as the union venue shuts at 12 due to a lack of a late license, but that won’t hamper the atmosphere. If you are a fan of live electronic music, there’s no reason to miss this live set. Whilst most hip hop producers garner a wealth of samples from soul, jazz and funk, AraabMUZIK takes a heavier inspiration from more recent electronic styles, making him not just your average hip hop producer.
We strongly recommend you check him out at his December 2nd show. See you there.
Also, DJ Mag has announced the nominations for their Best of British 2011 poll.
If you love what is happening in Scotland, and the UK overall, we recommend you go and vote for your favourites. Glasgow is being strongly represented in the nominations, with Numbers, Rubadub, Hudson Mohawke, Rustie and The Sub Club up for awards. So, go show some love. The link for the voting app is below »»»
First off, our apologies for the show being 45 minutes this week instead of an hour - we had technical difficulties that held us up. We’ll be back to an hour like normal next time.
This week Jamie was riding solo without Lauren, but what was lost in talk was definitely gained in good music - there’s a little bit of everything in this one here. We’re listening to Drake’s sophomore effort ‘Take Care’ and getting a feel of it, and we’re loving the Jamie xx/Gil Scott Heron sample.
We’ve also got a track from the B. Bravo release, which is out on the brand new Earnest Endeavours label of London. Already a respected magazine and event promotions group otherwise known as Patchwork Pirates and Thugs & Hugs, they represent a tight knit creative family from New York, Chicago and Los Angeles, and even brought the incredible Dante’s Fried Chicken to our shores.
We wish them every success in the new label.
Hold tight for more exclusive mixes coming your way.
Continuing our series in exclusive mini-mixes from our favourite producers and DJs, as well as new talent close to our hearts and ears, todays show brings you a very special mix from the one and only ANGO. As one half of the Jacques Greene touring live show, a brilliant house and R&B producer, and one of our favourite Montreal party-starters, ANGO really does brings that lil’ something special. We’re not quite sure what it is yet, but our mutual love of The-Dream probably has something to do with it.
This exclusive mix of his, made just for us, is a wonderful showcase of his DJ talents as well as his impeccable taste in modern electronic music. Check it out and if you like what you hear, please do buy his brand new release.
It’s out on Scotlands own LuckyMe, and it’s called Another City Now. Check it here »»
