Night Slugs is a record label and club run by Bok Bok and L-Vis 1990. I am a fan of their music, but tonight I was looking over the artwork for the first 5 releases and was hit by how fucking sick the design is. Soo perfect for the sound, so consistent without relying on a bland template. Beautiful stuff.
Here they are in order (click through for massive versions to see the detail):
Mamihlapinatapai is a word from the Yaghan language of Tierra del Fuego, listed in The Guinness Book of World Records as the “most succinct word”, and is considered one of the hardest words to translate. It describes “a look shared by two people with each wishing that the other will initiate something that both desire but which neither one wants to start.”
'The Big Payback', yeah, it's at least three years old now I'm sure, 07? Onras new album 'Long Distance' is pretty good, there's a few nice collaborations on it like Olivier Daysoul. It does feel like a more of a grown up sound - his previous stuff sounded way too Dilla-worship. I'd rather just listen to Dilla when it comes down to that kind of thing. You listened to the new Flying Lotus album?
I’m unsure of how this will affect the station and its reputation in terms of listeners, but it can only be a good thing for all that are closely involved. As ideologically romanticised as pirate radio stations are in the UK urban music scene, particularly with nods to grime, it’s only realistic that a monster like Rinse gets its rewards. It’s worked hard enough. Took 16 years to reach this point. Big love.
“Saturday was all about the LuckyMe showcase. Scotland’s mob that links Glasgow math rock ecstasy (American Men) with Montreal Turbocrunk (Lunice is the Energizer Bunny in rap form, and add a surprise appearance from Hovatron and it’s game over), cosmic cinematic RnB (The Blessings, LuckyMe’s founders Fineart and Dom Sum) with banging techno and twisted electronica DJs (Eclair Fifi and Hudson Mohawke back-to-back). Not to mention Machinedrum’s mighty sexual electro erupting around the rest of the stage crew of Joe and Lauren Ballers (who run LuckyMe’s Ballers Social Club jam), Mamiko Motto from Hepcat Radio, LuckyMe’s awesome photographer Christina Kernohan (all her photos after the jump) Rustie and 8Bitch, Patchwork Pirates and Earnest Endeavours… It really was all love. And beats. Basically.”—
“For a minute there I almost believed you. And I wanted to forgive you for everything you’ve done. And I could feel safe but miserable in a familiar world of lies and misinformation. But then I remembered that everything you’ve ever said, and everything you’ve ever done, add up to more wrongs than could ever make a right. So don’t try to talk to me, because a thousand ‘fuck you’s would never be enough. So I’m only gonna say this once. Fuck you, I’m never coming back.”—The Suicide File - The Somme
“But I adore her. This will never happen. Over my dead body. Of course I think about it. Burn my path if it does. Shape my body as I feel torn and broken. And if it happens, I’ll burn and crawl deeper in my hole. Darkness always says hello. And your burning body will light my way. Burning body, light my way.”—Poison The Well - Botchla
